Will Book "A ", p. 157

In the name of God amen I, Stephen Barnes of the township of WilkesBarre in the county of Luzerne and commonwealth of Pennsylvania being sick of body of a sound and disposing mind and memory do make constitute and ordain this my last will and testament.

And first my body to be buried in a decent manner any my soul to God who gave it, and then my worldly concerns to be disposed of in the following manner, and first I give to my beloved wife Azebah all my household goods & Kitchen furniture to her own use and disposal free and absoluletly

and secondly, I give to my son Timothy Barnes my homestead whereon I reside containing one hundred acres in fee to him his heirs and assigns forever as fully as the same is in me vested subject nevertheless to the payment of the following legacies and bequests viz:

I direct my said son Timothy to furnish his mother Azabah with a good and comfortable room and sufficient and convenient food & clothing and firewood ready cut and preplaced at the door and also pay her twelve dollars in cash annually during her life from the time of my decease.

I do also give to my other children viz:
Ruth Atherton wife of Moses Atherton, to my daughter Margaret Dennis wife of Benjamin Dennis, to my son Joseph Barnes, to my son Stephen Gilbert Barnes, to my Daughter Elizabeth Bailey wife of George Bailey, to Clarissa Jameson, wife of John Jameson the sum of twenty dollars each to be paid to them or their heirs by my son Timothy within six years of my decease.

And also my will is that my son Timothy shall deliver to my Grandaughter Alvinia Eyke when she shall arrive at the age of eighteen years one cow and four sheep.

I also do give to my son Timothy all the stock belonging to my place, such as horses, cattle, sheep and swine and wagon and geers and all my farming utensils, and all my monies and debts due or owing to me, and I further direct that my son Timothy pay all my debts and expenses and fulfill all my contracts.

And I do hereby constitute my sons Stephen Gilbert Barnes and Timothy Barnes my Executors of this my last will and testament.

In testimony whereof, I have published and declared the foregoing to be my last will and testament and signed sealed and delivered it as such this twenty fifth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred fourteen, 1814
