The Will of
HENRY CEASE

Will Book "C", p. 135

I, Henry Cease of Jackson Luzerne Co., Pa make and publish this my last will & testament hereby revoking all wills by me at any time heretofore made.

Firstly. I direct that all my just debts be paid out of my personal estate and should this be insuffiecient, then I direct my executors hereinafter named to sell so much of my real estate as may be necessary for this purpose: hereby giving them full authority to do so, either at public or private Sale, and to make the necessary deed of conveyance, and whereas my wife Polly has been many years in a state of derangement and is incapable of taking care of herself, and it being my wish that she should be made comfortable during her natural life, and for this purpose I charge my land for her comfortable support and maintainance: and should my children fail to do this in such manner as may be neccessary to supply all her proper wants; then it is my desire that the Orphan's Court of the County of Luzerne should decree a sum to be raised annually out of my Estate for this purpose not to exceed the income of the one third part of the same, anmd should my real estate be sold under proceedings in partition or in any other way, then I desire the said court to make such order as may in their discretion, supply her neccessary wants or to my estate real and personal, subject to the support and maintenance of my wife above named, I give and bequeath the same to my children in the following portions that is to say, the whole to constitute ten shares, and to be held as follows:
To Susan intermarried with Perry Chapman and her heirs, and
Christine intermarried with Henry Hutchins and her heirs. I devise one share between them.
to Barbery intermarried with Charles Hedsel & her heirs one share,
to George, Jacob, Peter, Henry, Joseph, Abram, Philip and Josiah one share, and to their respective heirs in the event of the decrease of either of them.
To my duaghter Sarah intermarried with Thomas Lamoreaux and to her heirs, I give and bequeath fifty dollars the same to be paid by my executors within one years after my decease, the said Sarah having received from me a good outset, on her marriage and the large liabilities I have incurred for her husband, is the reason why I make her share less than her sisters.

The following abatements to be made from the shares of Christine, Susan, Jacob & Peter, that is to say. I have sold each of them or their husbands land & for which I have not received all the purchase money, any portion therefore, of purchasing money remaining unpaid at my decease to be deducted from the share of the one who many owe the same, And I further order and direct that any account I may have against either of my children, at my decease, shall be deducted from the share of the child owing the same, except as to Sarah Lamoreaux and in her case, only debts incurred by her or husband after the date of this will,

I name constitute and appoint my sons George Cease and Josiah Cease and my friend Hendrick B. Wright executors of this my last will and testament - and should the said Hendrick B. Wright refuse to take letters, jointly with my two sons, it is nevertheless my wish and desire that they should consult with him in all matters relating to my estate.

In testamony where of I have hereto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this 6th day of May 1856.
